Tyneside Curly Coated Retrievers

We started by attending the Monday WC, WCX and WCQ just to watch. It turned out to be a rainy and miserable day but very much worth it to see how amazing the curly does it’s job.
On Wednesday, the day of sweepstakes I showed Gerry Young’s boy Issac who took the 6-9 puppy class and then went on to win Best of Opposite in puppy sweeps. Issac took his class in the regular specialty as well. I also showed a sweet puppy girl for Jennifer Collins who had a litter mate in the same puppy sweeps class. These youngsters are going to do well.
On Wednesday we began the specialty with Sadie in Open bitch where she took 3rd in a very nice and large class. She held her own during the supported entry coming in second and thirds but never out of the ribbons.
Supra pulled a hind leg muscle and we spent the first two days just trying not to be excused. Both days the judges seemed to want to consider her as they had me repeat the down and back twice on both days. I managed to keep her going as Supra and her litter mate Quinn took the Best Brace award for the second year in a row.
With a lot of stretching and massaging Supra’s leg sprain continued to improve and by Saturday she made the cut in an enormous lineup of specials. Sunday she hit the mark taking Select Bitch and NOHS Best of Breed. She continued on the take an Owner Handled Group 3 under the specialty judge David Miller.
The wins were nice but the best part was seeing all the curlies and people. I spent some time doing a few photos of dogs and we got to spend time with old friends and even made some awesome new ones. We are all glad to be home and to have the day to unpack and rest.
Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all of the people who helped put on such a great event. We look forward to seeing all of you again in Philly next year.
